Hiro and Ando Go Superhero

Masi Oka recently spoke with The Futon Critic about his character, Bryan Fuller’s return and what to expect in the upcoming Fugitives volume.  Masi addressed the ups and downs of the show and  said that the 2nd half of season 3 would see the Heroes going back to the “fundamentals” of what made the show great – the central character, smaller stories, and big action.

Masi also revealed that Hiro and Ando will be reversing roles now that Ando has the powers and Hiro doesn’t.  Hiro will attempt to turn Ando into a real superhero by becoming the Alfred to his Batman.  “Hiro takes on pretty much the role of the butler. He becomes Alfred (laughs)… he tries to make a Batman out of Ando but Ando’s reluctant and he only cares about girls right now so Hiro tries to make him use the power for good to save other people and, of course, Hiro ends up getting in trouble and Ando ends up helping him."

Masi was asked if the cast was aware of what was going on behind the scenes that led to the exit of writer/producers Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander.  "We weren’t aware at all. We had no idea. In many ways what happens in the writers room stays in the writers room. For us, we have a lot of respect for that process and it’s not our place to say anything. So it was actually really a shock for us to find out that was happening."  Though he was sad to see Loeb and Alexander go, Masi said he is excited to have Bryan Fuller back on the show .  "Bryan came back the day after he found out Pushing Daisies wasn’t coming back and he was so gung ho about this show and came back with all these ideas, so excited… Bryan coming in I think gave an uplifting momentum and energy and a big morale boost to everybody… there’s a great synergy in the room right now."
